The program aims to build your team's capability to develop and strengthen mathematics learning and teaching for all students at your school, underpinned by a mix of local and external research and reflective collaboration. The program is founded on a view that strong maths learning, teaching and leading will support all learners, no matter their circumstances and experiences. In particular we acknowledge that learners will range from thriving to being significantly challenged during 2020. A focus on building positive learner dispositions will foster student well-being and reduce the anxieties often associated with learning Mathematics.

The program will also explore strategies for connecting with and supporting parents and families to embrace contemporary ways of learning and teaching maths – taking advantage of some of the new ways to connect that emerged during remote learning. School Teams will explore the relationships and alignments between these evidence informed maths teaching approaches and the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model. This will feed into existing school structures to support collaboration, such as maths-focused PLTs, PLCs and team planning.

How can we lead and inspire our colleagues to embrace contemporary approaches to Mathematics that position learners as active, resourceful and fluent mathematicians who reason and solve problems with understanding?

Inspiring Maths Leadership has the following broad aims for participants:

  • To become a more connected, researchful and evidence-informed Maths-focused leadership team
